"The Inlaw" was one of my very first paintings that I am really happy with. I believe it reflects the style I am looking for in my work.
The painting was commissioned by my wife for her brother, hence the works name "The Inlaw". The brief was simple, to produce a painting that was modern and fresh, but would sit well in my brother-in-law's Edinburgh Georgian Flat.
Even though the painting looks very simple, it took a lot of work before I felt I was happy with the finished piece. I put down layers of paint to create dark moody background, the upper layers of bright colour gives contrast to the darker layers below. After adding the Orange and Red I scraped back the paint resulting it parts of the colour being transparent.
This painting was my banner artwork for my Oxfordshire Artweek 2015, as I felt it best reflected the work I was displaying during Artweek.
